2009 in Review

Well 2009 is gone. Another decade has almost passed. I remember when I was an adolescent I often wondered if I would be alive in the year 2000. I thought about it alot, because it would mean I had lived to be forty. Well I made it and in addition to that I have lived ten more, God is Good. Its seems like just yesterday we were preparing for Y2k. Everybody went out and bought sardines and lots of bottled water because we were told the world was gonna end LOL. Alot has happened in the last ten years. Lets look at my top ten significant stories from the last year.

1. As an African American I celebrated along with the rest of America at the nomination and election of our first African American President, Barrack Obama.

2. We also mourned the passing of the little boy from Gary Indian the legendary King of Pop Micheal Jackson.

3. We also mourned the passing of a television news icon Walter Cronkite, we will never forget when he told us President JFK had been assassinated.

4. The market crashed and we thought we were headed for another Great Depression!

5. We had the Miracle in the Hudson the 737 making an emergency landing in the Hudson river and all the passengers surviving.

6.President Barrack Obama selects Sonya Sotamayor to be the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice.

7. A new strain of flu emerged H1N1 or swine flu. We thought we were headed for a pandemic.

8. We mourned the passing of one of Charlies Angels Farah Fawcet, and we lost the man from Ghost Patrick Swayze.

9. We watched what we thought was a little boy floating precariously in a martian looking balloon, only to learn we had been duped.

10. Last but not least Murphy's law was confirmed, when we found out the what you think can't happen will, when we found out Tiger Woods was an adulter. Go think.

Well what a year, of course there were other stories of interest. A lot has happened over the last year. It would seem to me that the world can sometimes be a very unfriendly place. There were a lot of good things that happened in the world over the last year as well, one worth mentioning is that we will finally have health care reform, we will see. But lets start out the new year with optimism and think like our current President Barrack Obama. He would say that we should have the Audacity to Hope.
