Compromise

To compromise means to make concessions to gain something. If used properly as a tool for assisting others in plans for good is no problem. It is when as Christians we know we are allowing our core values to be put aside that we can encounter problems. I Kings 11:4 Says "For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wife's turned his heart after other Gods; and his heart was not loyal to the lord his God, as was the heart of his father David." The bible tells us this King Solomon was one of the wisest men to ever live. When he came into his kingship he did not ask God for fame or wealth, he asked for wisdom that he might rule properly. God granted him this as well as riches and glory. Wisdom is knowledge used for its intended purpose. The bible also says that fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom.

The wise learn by watching others. We are all the sum total of the people we meet over the course of our lives. To me this means that each and every person we meet, good, bad or indifferent contributes to our make up in some way. The total of all of these encounters is what makes us who we are. wisdom comes into play as we decide to take and keep the useful things we observe or see. We have to learn to disregard the unfruitful things we learn or see. King Solomon this very wise king in the twilight of his life compromised on his commitment to God by interracial marring, which God forbid. God forbid this, not because he is racist as we would see it. But because he knew that interracial marring would cause the king to become tempted by the cultural values that came with marring outside ones race. People from other cultures worshiped idols and foreign gods and God did not want Solomon to fall victim to this.

Each day in our christian walk we have to choose whom we are going to follow. The bible says we can't serve both Satan and god. Its like being a little bit pregnant, not possible. We will either love the one and hate the other, or hate the other and love the one. Each and everyday we have to renew our commitment to serve god and not compromise on our core christian values, which should be to serve god with all of our heart , mind, body, and soul. In this way we know we please God which is wisdom.
