commitment
Commitment, Websters dictionary definition of this powerful word is, " The state of being bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action or to another person or persons: a deep commitment to liberal policies; a profound commitment to the family." Commitment is one of the most influential words in the English language do to its implications. We all are committed to one thing or another in our lives. What we are committed to can be a strong indication of just who and what we are, or are becoming.
My own personal experience with the word has had both good and bad results. Time will afford us the opportunity to experience life on life's terms, with both good and bad results. It is often times unfortunate, but the one thing that all humans have in common is we all have trials and tribulations. As a matter of fact most times we don't get to pick what they are, but what we do get to pick is what to do with the time God has given us. It is through our choices that I believe we can transcend our trials, come out smelling like a Rose, and our commitments play an instrumental part in helping us to accomplish that. The bible says, "That the road to hell and damnation is wide and broad and there are many who shall enter, the road to eternal life and salvation is narrow and straight and there are not many who can walk it."
I said all of that to say this. We all are committed to one thing or another. What we are committed to can make all the difference between success and failure in our lives. Are you foremost committed to God by being saved? Being committed to God means you have faith and the apostle James say. "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:19-20; Belief in God is not enough. Such faith without "works" is dead. A living faith is an active faith. "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does" (James 1:22-25). So real faith requires a level of commitment.
Are you committed to being a positive example for your family and friends? Are you committed to the golden rule? Treat others as you would like to be treated. Now for those of you who might be wondering, there are plenty of other things we can find ourselves committed to that can destroy us. Are you committed to I before you in all of your social relationships with other people? Are you committed to winning at all cost even at the expense of hurting others? Are you committed to money, power, and maybe even drugs over all other factors in your life?
Keeping it 100 I have found myself committed to some of these negative elements at different points in my life. The cost has been lots of opportunity to fail. Now I am not proud of this, but I don't walk around hanging my head in shame either. We can successfully separate ourselves from failures in our lives by first of all recognizing them for what they really are. True failure happens when we remain in this fallen condition and refuse to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off and continue the good fight. I thank God each and every day that he is a God of not only second chances but third, fourth, and as many times as his grace will allow. But there comes a time in every mans life where his walk must be completely, totally committed to our creator. This is the formula for success that all humans must come to realize to implement Gods ultimate plan for our lives. To do anything less is Unwise.
