Unexpected Tragedy

Today we all woke up to the tragic news of the passing of an icon, the lengendary and beautiful Whitney Houston. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, The bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord Rest In peace Whitney. I am reminded of the train of thought why do bad things happen to good people? One simple biblical account is what happened with the fall of mankind. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden by eating the apple from the tree of knowledge, they released sin, sickness, death and a host of other earthly curses against all of humanity. We have all suffered ever since.

In the community that I live in a member of the religious community who was considered one of our pillars was taken from us unexpectedly. I suppose if he had been victimized by some long illness where we had time to prepare for his death, we could have been better prepared. He was involved in a motorcycle accident where he was expected to recover fully. None of his injuries were considered life threatening. Suddenly things took a turn for the worst, he had some unexpected complications, and we received the distressing news that he had passed away. The questions we ask is why? Why do decent God fearing people get suddenly taken from us?

In truth the answer is simply this. We all have a date with father time. Our days on this earth are all numbered. Because man sinned God said one of the consequences would be that his days on this earth would be shortened. Genesis 3: 22-23 says's "22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." 23 So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken." Later on in the Genesis story we know that Cain and Able offered up offerings to God. Ables reward for having an acceptable offering of faith to God, it would seem, was to be murdered by his brother. Life can, as we often know from experience be painful and cruel. We should not be surprised by these sudden twist of fate because such is life. The Apostle Paul says's to expect trials and tribulations for they produce perseverance and perseverance produces character, and character gives us hope which will never disappoint us.

This is our one and only answer. It is the perfect solution to the human delima of misery and pain. God has worked out the perfect solution to our impending death. Ole death where is thou sting. Jesus Christ overcame Satan and death when he went to the cross. As Christan's we stand on Gods promise, that not only do we have a right to the tree of life, but we can have it in more abundance right here on earth if we would only take him at his word. Life can sometimes throw us all a curve ball. But we are prepared to knock it out of the park if we would only just believe.

  1. Trenius:

Very well said Craig! By the way, I think death can seem harsh or painful when we look at it in a worldly view full of smoke screens. We as people have been birth into a stagnant society where the ground rules were already laid out by man; on arrival, so to speak. Standards, morals, ignorance, and limits were already set in place and we are shown a world in the perspective of a square cube dilated in fear. Why? Well like you said Craig, sin. Sin has corrupted the minds of many humans which created the Ego in man from the beginning and made him feel as if he should have to seek something in life rather than God. This is the same way Eve was tempted into thinking curiously there was more that she should know or that she was missing out on something since God is so wonderful yet mysterious. Doesn't temptation always suggest us to take our focus off Good for one split second? " Hey, it's alright... this one time won't kill you, besides aren't you a child of God?" He'll always love you, says temptation.

On the other hand, this back fires on the way we perceive death because if we are continuously constantly seeking things other than God, then we subconsciously feel as if time is needed to complete our mission. So fear comes into play simply because we do not know exactly when our time is up. The whole time we are manipulating ourselves into thinking we really must please God!
Therefore if this same wash cycle of thinking is happening over and over in a individuals mind, the fear of death grows in man's DNA which brings us to today... Fear of Death. Seeing death as a sad thing, having sorrow and weeping in what was God's call. Overall, we lost track of life along with the meanings of why we are here. We are here because God put us here to witness Him and all His glory in the Life that from Him, through Him.

    Good excerpt Craig. I 'like'
